Cyclone separators works on the fundamental principle of centrifugation. It removes particulates from an air, gas, or liquid stream without the use of filters, but through vortex separation. Rotational effects and gravity are used to separate mixtures of solids and fluids. The method can also be used to separate fine droplets of liquid from a gaseous stream.
Advantages of cyclone separator:
- Effective separation of denser particle: Larger (denser) particles in the rotating stream which strike the outside wall, then falling to the bottom of the cyclone where they can be removed. In a conical system, as the rotating flow moves towards the narrow end of the cyclone, thus separating both large and smaller particles.
- Efficient way to remove larger particles: The cyclone geometry, together with flow rate, defines the cut point of the cyclone. This is the size of particle that will be removed from the stream with 50% efficiency. Particles larger than the cut point will be removed with a greater efficiency and smaller particles with a lower efficiency.
Multi - Cyclones

An arrangement of multiple cyclone separators parallel is known as a multi-cyclones system. This series of cyclones with decreasing sizes maximize efficiency of separating particles from gas stream.
Benefits of adopting multi-cyclones:
- Complex filtration: Multi-Cyclones consist of two or more set of cyclones. This set of cyclones is placed in one gas stream to obtain higher cleaning efficiency than that of single cyclone.
- Maximizing efficiency by dividing stream: The gas stream is divided into two separate streams of gas and the combined in one single stream at the outlet.
- Works better with finer dust: Multi-cyclones are preferred where higher efficiency in capturing finer dust is required.
- Meeting compliance with environmental standards: Multi-cyclones works efficiently with complex and crucial industrial setup also, where capturing finer particles in important to meet environmental standards.
Multi Clones

Multi clone separators are proven to be efficient in removing dust than single cyclone separators as the longer length of separators provides longer residence time as well as smaller diameter. This increases centrifugal force and separate even the finest particle effectively than both single cyclone and multi-cyclone separator.
Benefits of multi-clones:
- Its design provide leverage to filter finest particles. Its capacity to separate broad spectrum of particle sizes widens its applicability in several industries to support rigorous dust control measures.
- Its efficiency makes it ideal for several industries such as pharmaceuticals, cement, steel, and food industry.
